Make this super easy simple maxi skirt pattern given to us by The Sewing Loft.

Maxi skirts are perfect for summer and this one is as easy as it gets. Not only is it a snap to make but Heather from The Sewing Loft even let the hem curl for a relaxed casual look.

I don’t usually like putting “patterns” on my blog without them being printable pdf’s. I tend to stay away from the blogs that force you to draft a pattern from garments in your wardrobe…but this time, when I saw The Sewing Loft’s tutorial explaining how to draft your own maxi skirt pattern from your measurements, I thought it was definitely worth adding as the instructions are VERY easy to follow and at the end of it, you will have a personal pattern drafted to your own measurements.

Sewing Instructions:

**This how to is focused around using a serger. But do not worry- you can use a standard machine set to a stretch stitch.  Refer to your owner’s manual.

  1. Pin and cut your pattern.  Remember to line up your grain line.  Cutting the fabric is super important so, please take your time!
  2. Match the front and back of skirt with right sides together; stitch side seams.

  3. Cut elastic 3″ smaller than waist measurement. Fold in half and join together with zig zag. Stretch elastic to fit along wrong side of fabric and attach. Stretch elastic evenly while sewing. Fold over to wrong side of fabric, stretch elastic evenly and straight stitch in place along bottom edge. *Quick Tip: Now is the perfect time to slip in a label if you have one.

  4. Hem time: Give your hem a quick spin around with the serger machine or you can leave it long and unfinished for a casual look.
